Asia Communication Awards Recognise Cambium Networks

Editor

Cambium Networks™, a global provider of IP wireless access and transport solutions, has been recognised by the Asia Communication Awards for its commitment to delivering broadband to the emerging markets. The company has been named as a finalist for the ‘Emerging Market Initiative’ award, after completing an innovative project that brought broadband to Tabubil, Papua New Guinea, which hosts some of the most difficult terrain and challenging weather conditions in the world.

Cambium worked with its partner Kordia Limited to connect Tabubil to the Internet by deploying KorPower – a totally unique transportable wireless transmission system, providing off the grid power which in turn provides WiMAX, WiFi, GSM or other platforms. The KorPower unit was made specifically for the Papua New Guinea Sustainable Development Programme, and at its very heart is the Cambium PMP320, bringing a cost-effective, licensed spectrum, outdoor wireless broadband access network solution. Its industry standard WiMAX 802.16e interoperability enabled connectivity for reliable data, voice and video applications and was ideally suited to the KorPower development.

“Cambium’s Point-to-Multipoint PMP320 has played a significant role in Kordia’s highly successful installation,” said Roy Wittert, Vice President of Sales and Marketing APAC. “The combination of the innovation of Kordia, coupled with the sheer reliability of the PMP320, is already making a massive difference in Tabubil – enabling many people to join the world of the Internet for the first time, while improving the twon’s infrastructure.”
