Newest office opens in regional capital city, Erbil, Iraq

Hermes Datacomms, a leading global provider of managed networks for the upstream oil and gas industry, part of the SpeedCast Group, today announced the opening of its newest office in Erbil, Iraq. The new facility is in direct response to increasing demand for services from the oil and gas sector in Iraq and will enable the SpeedCast Group to deliver a higher level of service and support in this rapidly growing market.

Hermes Datacomms has over 25 years experience in providing global satellite communication and networking services to the oil and gas industry. Hermes has been operating in the Middle East for over 10 years. In 2011, the company was awarded a trading licence for Iraq and since then has been working with partners to deliver turnkey projects involving fibre and last mile access as well as VSAT services, fixed, mobile and microwave services.

Osama Oulabi, Business Unit Manager, Middle East, said, “Iraq has been a strategic market for Hermes for the past 3 years. With the opening of the company’s newest office in Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan region of Northern Iraq, we are well-positioned for growth in the region.”

“This augments our existing presence in the Middle East, with our two other offices, in Dubai and in Basra, Southern Iraq. We are keen to expand our resources within Iraq and wanted to demonstrate our commitment to our customers in the region, to support them on a local level, with local engineers on hand and 24/7 service and support,” Mr. Oulabi added.

Hermes Datacomms currently provides communications to 16 sites, supporting major operators and service companies in the region.

“This latest investment represents our commitment to our global energy customers, to provide exceptional customer service and support in the key countries where they operate.” said Pierre-Jean Beylier, CEO of SpeedCast. “With our wealth of experience, strong local presence in key markets and wide portfolio of solutions, SpeedCast, together with Hermes, is poised for growth in the energy sector.”

This latest office opening follows the recent acquisition of Hermes Datacomms by SpeedCast International Limited (“SpeedCast”). The new combined entity’s joint vision is to become the leading supplier of communication services to the energy sector worldwide. The Group’s combined capabilities enable it to provide global coverage, an expanded service portfolio and the ability to offer customers fully managed, end-to-end communication and IT solutions.
