HUBER+SUHNER Shines the Spotlight on the Future of High Density Fiber in Data Centers at Data Centre World

Editor

HUBER+SUHNER showcases new MTP connectors, cables and fiber management solutions for rocketing data rates and highlights the need to mitigate human error in high gig data center environments

Global connectivity supplier HUBER+SUHNER is rocking the world of data centre connectivity with its high performance “fast, flexible and future-proofed” cables and connectors designed for high gig data rates. The company will use this week’s Data Centre World event to showcase its optical cabling solutions for a range of applications including 12- and 24-fiber MPO connectivity for 40G and 100G data rates. Also on display will be HUBER+SUHNER’s range of fiber management and containment solutions for the data center. In addition HUBER+SUHNER’s Data Center Market Manager, Phil Ward, will give presentations on the future of data center connectivity and the importance of mitigating human error in data centers.

Headquartered in Switzerland, HUBER+SUHNER’s UK operations are located in Bicester in Oxfordshire. The company specialises in connectivity in a wide range of environments including the data center, where its broad portfolio of high density fiber management solutions and innovative cabling systems provide ideal solutions in high speed environments. With its recent acquisition of Cube Optics the company has complemented its range of connectivity solutions with a broad range of high performance optical transport solutions.

In “Mitigating the human factor in data centers,” speaking on the second day of the conference at Data Centre World, Phil Ward will explain how, despite new advances in cabling and connector performance, data center operators are still faced with the ever-present risk of human error. As humans have not changed as the environment has, Ward asks if modern data centers need new levels of security to mitigate the imminent risks.

In a second presentation entitled “Connecting tomorrow’s data center,” Phil Ward will highlight that the accelerating pace of change in the data center industry is having a dramatic impact on the cabling infrastructure. As the growth in data rates has gone from 10G to 40G and 100G, allowable Link losses have been reduced and the connector interface has been developed beyond expectations. Ward examines these developments and makes predictions about the next generation of structured cabling.

HUBER+SUHNER will also display a range of fiber management and containment solutions for the data center. Designed to be high-density, flexible and scalable, HUBER+SUHNER’s side access range is one of the world’s highest density fiber management systems. It offers full-height cabinets with a density of 3,000 fibers per rack in a depth of only 300mm. This can also be scaled down to wall-mounted cabinets offering only a few hundred fibers. Inside the cabinet is an intelligent and flexible fiber tray that can be used for almost any application or termination method. It can be utilised for example for pigtail-splicing, pre-assembled to a cable system or supplied as an MTP-based system for fast deployments and to meet the evolution paths of 40G and 100G links.

HUBER+SUHNER’s side access system is focused on speed of installation and speed of access with installation taking just a few seconds and with access at any time without the need for tooling and without disrupting pre-installed live fibers.
