Satellite communications specialist has new leadership for business activities in APAC

Satellite communications specialist, Newtec, has appointed former Technicolor, Alcatel-Lucent, and ECI Telecom executive Mario Querner as the company’s new VP Asia. He has more than 25 years of international business experience in telecommunications and media working in both Europe and Asia.

He will lead the business activities for Newtec in Asia and the Pacific. Newtec stands out as one of the world’s most prominent providers of satellite communications solutions offering professional equipment, broadband systems, IP software and services to optimize satellite transmission.

Prior to joining Newtec, Mario Querner worked as Head for South-East Asia at ECI Telecom, based in Singapore. He also worked in a number of other leading telecommunication infrastructure and media solution providers such as Technicolor, formerly Thomson, in charge of sales in APAC-EMEA for Digital Home Solutions, based in Paris and as Managing Director and Country Senior Officer in Indonesia for Alcatel-Lucent.

Serge Van Herck, CEO, Newtec, says: “We are very pleased to make this appointment. Mario brings extensive knowledge and business connections in the Asia region with him, along with his own powerful ideas for further expanding Newtec in the continent. Over the past years we have seen significant growth in Asia and we continue to see a strong future with many opportunities.”

Mario Querner added: “I am happy to join Newtec during this exciting time. This year, Newtec has launched a number of new, advanced products, such as the high throughput MDM6000 satellite modem and the M6100 broadcast satellite modulator both of which support the latest DVB standards including S2 Extensions and Carrier ID (DVB-CID). In addition, we have new broadband solutions for consumers and enterprise markets. My objective for Asia is to bring these new products to our existing and new customers, in broadcasting, telecom and government organisations. We already have an excellent team in place and we will continue to work with our partners to address the challenges ahead.“

Mario Querner has a degree in electrical engineering from the University of Applied Science in Braunschweig/Wolfenbuettel (Germany) and a degree in business administration from Brunel University (United Kingdom). Based in Singapore, Mario will manage Newtec’s Singapore and Beijing offices.

In 2011 Newtec has marked ten years in Asia. It is a member of the Asia Pacific Satellite Communications Council (APSCC) and the Cable and Satellite Broadcasting Association of Asia (CASBAA).
