In the run-up to the return of the hugely successful CommuniCast event and Myanmar’s second Satellite Forum (17-19 November 2015 at Myanmar Event Park, Yangon), the Myanmar Government has acted on its plans to develop one of the country’s key industry sectors with a new broadcasting law to open up the country’s media industry and encourage the distribution of new services.

Myanmar’s broadcasting industry is accelerating at a fast pace the new law will send a strong message to the world that the Myanmar Government is committed to infrastructure development on a truly massive scale.

Talking about the country’s telecommunications and broadcasting industries and the advancements that have been made, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology Myanmar, H.E U Thaung Tin, said: “The broadcasting industry is moving very fast. From an economic, commercial, national prestige and national security point of view, everything points towards satellite and the demand is increasing. We have now given the satellite project top priority on our agenda and are working on getting this set up in the near future.

“We have done well in terms of telecom liberalisation so far but the journey has just begun. We now have to kick momentum and fulfil the people of Myanmar’s desires and expectations. People are now asking for the quality of service and more choices and we have to deliver that,” he added.

Satellite Sovereignty was a key theme from last year’s event which was host to the country’s first Satellite Forum, and the announcement of a new broadcasting law is sure to stimulate the debate at the event’s return on 18 November 2015.

Broadcast services, connected TV and satellite technologies and services have already been highlighted as key topics for this year’s CommuniCast event and, with plans making headway for the launch of the country’s own satellite within five years, satellite infrastructure is set to take the spotlight again at the country’s second Myanmar Satellite Forum.

The CommuniCast Myanmar 2015 event will take place from 17-19 November 2015 at Myanmar Event Park, Yangon and is supported by both the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and the Ministry of Information.
