{"id":2820,"date":"2013-09-13T10:47:39","date_gmt":"2013-09-13T10:47:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.telecomstalk.com\/?p=2820"},"modified":"2018-06-06T10:13:48","modified_gmt":"2018-06-06T10:13:48","slug":"93-of-the-industry-suffers-from-satellite-interference-according-to-a-carrier-id-survey-carried-out-by-newtec-and-irg","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.telecomstalk.com\/?p=2820","title":{"rendered":"93% of the Industry Suffers From Satellite Interference according to a Carrier ID survey carried out by Newtec and IRG"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>According to a Carrier ID survey, carried out by the Satellite Interference Reduction Group (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.satirg.org\/\">IRG<\/a>) and satellite communications specialist, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newtec.eu\/\">Newtec<\/a>, 93% of respondents suffer from satellite interference at least once a year, with more than half suffering at least once a month and 17% continuously in their day to day operations.<\/p>\n<p>The joint survey has been carried out over the summer, and the full results, from close to 500 respondents will be announced at a free session at IBC on Saturday 14th September from 10:30am \u2013 12pm. The <strong>session<\/strong>, entitled \u201c<strong>Are You Ready to Turn CID On?<\/strong>\u201d, will feature a number of leading industry players, who will share their view on the current and future evolutions of Carrier ID.<\/p>\n<p>The survey also demonstrated that 51% of respondents don\u2019t yet know when they will implement Carrier ID. Bearing in mind the recent launch of <a href=\"http:\/\/tech.ebu.ch\/docs\/news\/2013_07\/WBU-ISOG%20Carrier%20ID%20Resolutions%20_Final_.pdf\">WBU-ISOG resolutions<\/a>, relating to the implementation timeframes of Carrier ID, the industry drastically needs to move forward with ensuring widespread implementation.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWe are pleased with the response we have had to the survey showing that people are engaged in the subject,\u201d<\/em> commented Thomas van den Driessche, Chief Commercial Officer, Newtec. <em>\u201cThe topic has moved from talking about satellite interference to taking actions. There are clear signs of the satellite operators and broadcasters going for the necessary steps soon.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWe are largely comforted by the responses to this survey,\u201d<\/em> commented Martin Coleman, Executive Director, the Satellite Interference Reduction Group. <em>\u201cWhilst we would of course like to see the number of respondents suffering from interference reduce, we are pleased to see a higher percentage than have already implemented Carrier ID, or plan to do so in the near future.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The survey results will be available as a booklet to all participants of the session, as well as on request after IBC.
