{"id":6108,"date":"2016-09-05T18:25:13","date_gmt":"2016-09-05T18:25:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.telecomstalk.com\/?p=6108"},"modified":"2018-06-06T09:56:34","modified_gmt":"2018-06-06T09:56:34","slug":"telekom-austria-group-renews-partnership-newtec-eumetsats-eumetcast-upgrade","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.telecomstalk.com\/?p=6108","title":{"rendered":"Telekom Austria Group Renews Partnership with Newtec for EUMETSAT\u2019s EUMETCast Upgrade"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Newtec \u2013 a specialist in designing, developing and manufacturing equipment and technologies for satellite communications \u2013 today announced it has teamed up with Telekom Austria Group after EUMETSAT ordered an upgrade of EUMETCast, its primary dissemination mechanism for the near real-time delivery of satellite data and products.<\/p>\n<p>The first phases of the project will make an additional 18 MHz of satellite bandwidth available on Eutelsat 10A, located at 10\u00b0 East. By mid-2017, this will be upgraded to 36 MHz and made available to all end-users. <\/p>\n<p>As with the current uplink, the additional transponder will be established at Telekom Austria Group\u2019s teleport in Aflenz, with a back-up uplink available at its teleport in the so-called \u201cVienna Arsenal\u201d area in case of weather influence. Due to the good performance of the current DVB-S2 service, the second transponder will also use the same technology and coding \u2013 the Newtec MDM6000 Satellite Modems.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNewtec\u2019s proven track record of providing technology for EUMETSAT\u00b4s EUMETCast service made it an obvious choice when selecting a company to partner with for this project,\u201d said Franz Bader, Director Wholesale at Telekom Austria Group. \u201cBy using the Newtec modems, all EUMETCast receiving stations throughout Europe are guaranteed high throughput, as well as high data reliability and quality.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The benefits gained by EUMETSAT come as a result of the modem\u2019s unique onboard technologies \u2013 Equalink\u00ae 3 and Clean Channel Technology\u00ae (CCT). Developed by Newtec, Equalink 3 is a revolutionary linear and non-linear pre-distortion technology designed to compensate for the effects of imperfections in the filters and amplifiers of the satellite, providing breakthrough performance gains. Meanwhile, Newtec\u2019s CCT, with 5% roll offs, provides further significant satellite efficiency improvements compared to the current DVB-S2 roll-off. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe launch of additional weather satellites and increasing metrological data means an upgrade of our EUMETCast service is completely necessary,\u201d said Lothar Wolf, Competence Area Manager for Data Services at EUMETSAT. \u201cWith Newtec, we are confident we are able to provide the highest quality of service.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Newtec modems have been ordered for both of Telekom Austria Group\u2019s uplink locations and will be placed in a one-for-one redundant set-up.<\/p>\n<p>The advanced uplink and downlink data integrity monitoring implemented for the current service will also be upgraded. With this advanced monitoring \u2013 which is based on the Newtec NOP1900 Multicast Software (formerly known as TelliCast) and developed and implemented by EUMETSAT \u2013 it is possible to follow all data packets from the EUMETSAT office in Darmstadt, Germany, to EUMETCast receiving stations across Europe. This makes it possible to identify any packet losses in the complete transmission chain and where the loss occurred, making troubleshooting and future fault prevention much easier and quicker.
